BARRY C. AVERITT was born in 1952 in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended undergrad at Jacksonville State University in Alabama and in 1974 he received a B.S. with Special Honors in Management. He also received his MBA in 1975. While at Jacksonville State University, he was Treasurer and Parliamentarian of the Student Government Association and a Justice on the Student Traffic Court. He also was in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.
In 1978, Mr. Averitt received his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law, graduating Cum Laude (in the top 5% of his class). While there, he served as an Editor of the Real Property and Probate Estate Newsletter.
In 1979, Mr. Averitt received a post-doctoral L.L.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida's Levin College of Law.
He was admitted to practice law in Alabama in 1978 and in Florida in 1980. Mr. Averitt subsequently worked for The Charter Company in Jacksonville, Florida, at which time was number 74 on the "Fortune 500".
Mr. Averitt has practiced law in Jacksonville, FL at the law firm of Kirschner, Main, Graham, Tanner & Demont, where he was a shareholder, and subsequently at Holland & Knight, where he was a partner.
Mr. Averitt is the founding shareholder of Averitt and Alford, P.A. Martindale-Hubbell has rated Mr. Averitt and his law firm as AV, which is its highest peer-reviewed rating with regard to legal ability and ethical standards.
Mr. Averitt's law practice includes an emphasis on corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial real estate.
HOWARD L. ALFORD was born in 1961 in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended undergrad at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and in 1983 he received a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics. Mr. Alford attended Vanderbilt on a military scholarship, participating in the reserve officer training program at Vanderbilt and at nearby Tennessee State University.
After graduation, Mr. Alford received an officer's commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He then trained and flew as a Flight Navigator on an EC-130H, and accrued over 1500 flight hours in that capacity while based at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona. Mr. Alford ended his military career at the rank of Captain in order to attend law school.
In 1992 Mr. Alford received his Juris Doctor from University of Florida's Levin College of Law. While there, he served as a member of UF Law Review.
Mr. Alford was admitted to practice law in Florida later that year. Mr. Alford has practiced law in Jacksonville at the law firm Kirschner, Main, Graham, Tanner & Demont, and subsequently at Holland & Knight, where he was an associate. Additionally, he practiced as In-House Counsel and Agent Instructor for Realty Executives - the Preferred Group, in St. Johns County, Florida.
Mr. Alford is a shareholder of Averitt and Alford, P.A., and his law practice includes an emphasis on commercial real estate transactions, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
BOB DUNNIGAN is a Senior Research Associate for Averitt & Alford, P.A.
After earning an MBA from Columbia University's Business School, Mr. Dunnigan pursued a career both stateside and abroad with global investment houses Goldman Sachs and the Chase Manhattan Bank.
He has extensive experience with the intricacies of the financial markets, economic analysis and investment evaluation.
